Year 8's funday

IMG_0680.JPGIMG_0694.JPG

Finally a day were our teachers let us do a fun day out with the senior side of the school.  This day was all about seeing how the year 8’s could manage a sports day for the senior students. On the fun day that the year 8’s prepared their was approximately 12 games that were going to be played. I had set up a game called rob the nest, to play this game I had 3 hoops and located a child to each set of hoop then I placed eight balls inside each hoop. Then the rules were simple for the kids to understand which were you can run to any hoop and take one ball then run back to your hoop and place it inside then carry on. Although I set up rob the nest I still found other games that the year 8’s made up interesting such as capture the flag which had water balloons which most groups wanted to play. At the end of the year 8’s fun day out we all assembled on the asphalt and the year 7’s and 8’s were given lollies and pears for preparing the fun sports day.

Chalk enlargement

This morning my class and I had went outside to do a maths activity. It was all about enlarging a photo that we liked. The photo that we liked we choose and inserted it into google drawings, after that I Placed a grid on the photo. My grid is 6 by 6 which means it has 36 squares in total. I choose for every 1 centimeter to 30 centimeters. I found doing this activity easier to do than I thought. Next I want to learn more about enlarging because I found it really fun to do.

Enlargement

webcam-toy-photo2.jpg

Yesterday we were learning about enlargement. Our task today for maths was to enlarge a picture of an ant, hat, dinosaur, or lion. As you can see I tried to enlarge a picture of an ant it sorta came as I pictured it but I drew the last part of the ant to big. The little picture of the ant is 9 centimeters and the large picture of the ant is 18 centimeters so the scale factor is 2. I had to count each square on each picture as I started to draw the larger ant so the measurements could be as precise as possibly. I found this drawing activity a bit difficult because the legs and the circle at the end was hard to get in the exact spots. After doing this activity I would like to learn more about co - ordinates.

Tessellation

Today in class we learnt about tessellation. A tessellation is a repeated pattern that has no gaps and doesn't overlap. To find a tessellation you have to choose a vertex which means a point where lines meet. Also you  need to find a polygon which is a shape with straight sides such as rectangles, octagons and more. Our tessellation for our repeated pattern was 3.4.3.

Perimeter shape shooter

Screenshot 2016-10-28 at 9.18.59 AM.png

Today I played this game called perimeter shape shooter. I found this game easy to play because I already know how to calculate perimeter. Playing this game helped me revise my perimeter and it also made me remember how to calculate perimeter. I really liked this game because it had 4 levels and it got harder each level and made me think abit. Next I would like to learn more about temperature in maths.

Basketball

IMG_1178.JPG

Today we had basketball training with our coaches Yaron and Malik. They come every wednesday to teach us different skills about basketball. We learnt to catch the ball with our hands in the shape of a triangle, Chest pass, Overhead pass, bounce pass and our last skill was the pocket pass. We even got to play piggy in the middle but we were only allowed to pocket pass to our partner but we played that game because we were learning about fake passing and tricking the person in the middle so they couldn’t intercept our passes.

Brooke Neal

Today we had Brooke Neal come into our class, to speak to us about 2016 olympics. She told us about what she found hard and easy in the olympics. Although now that she is an outstanding hockey player she had said when she was younger everyone use to call her a baby giraffe, because she would swing her arms and legs around everywhere. Also she said that she thought that it was really awesome when she had not only seen her mum and dad at her quater final game at the olympic but also her brother. Even though he had lost his game the day before he had still put in effort to come and watch her game and that gave her that extra boost to try harder. Also she always had a poster every morning hang up on her wall to always remind her that
  • Nothing can stop me!
  • I am powerful
  • I show pride
  • I will do my best - everyday.

Star gazing

Screenshot 2016-10-21 at 9.45.11 AM.pngScreenshot 2016-10-21 at 9.44.28 AM.png

About a week ago I played this fraction game called star gazing. To play this game you would have to look on the microscope for the fraction that is pointing towards the planets then type it in the square box in the left bottom corner. I think that this game was easy to play because in class we had been working on fractions and revised what we already knew. I really liked this game but there should've been levels that made each question harder.

Throw back - Metaphors

IMG_0187.JPG
Walt: Match metaphors with their meaning in sport and non-sport activities

Firstly we had to get into groups of 3 or 4. I worked with Havea, Huntah and Zain. The students that were in the target writing group weren’t allowed to help because they had done this activity before so they just had to watch the rest match it together. I think when we were doing this activity it was interesting because it was my first time doing it. I think after doing this activity I would like to add some of these metaphors into my writing.

Acrostic poem - Panic

Walt: Write an acrostic poem using alliteration

People panicked and
Anxiously agonized about the storm.
Nick noticed nightmares of angry clouds approaching.
Icebergs injured innocent people.
Cyclones collided in california.

First day of school 2016

This photo was taken on the very first day of school. We were all put into groups in the hall to do maths with room 7. It was easier being in a bigger group because we got more answers to think about. When we compared our answers most of us had the same.

Personification poem

The beach

The trees danced back and forth as the wind passed by,
The waves crashing as an old man's dashes pass
Stepping into the water made him feel the warmth of a hot bath.

Prefixes and suffixes

Screenshot 2016-02-18 at 11.29.03 AM.png

A while ago I learnt how to play this online activity. This activity is about prefixes and suffixes I thought this activity was interesting to play because it was my first time doing something like this. Next time I play this I would like to have harder questions.

Mathletics

mathletics.PNG

Last week our school had been assigned to play an online maths game but this game wasn’t normal because it was a competition that was going on for a week. In my class I am coming second and my mate Zain is coming first. I think if i tried a little bit better I could've been coming first. Next I want to learn more about converting fractions into percentages.

Chalk art

Today we had finally done our art. We had chosen today because it was a nice sunny day.
We all had to choose a olympic sport that was going to be played at rio and draw it with chalk on the ground. I think it was a fun art to do because it was everyone's first time doing it. Some people had come up with some great ideas like skiing, Biathlon and other great sports that I wouldn’t of thought of. My sport was shooting it was a bit hard to draw the gun because I didn’t know what size to draw it so I drew it big. I would really like to do another art project like this.

Math man division

Today I revised division. I played a division game called maths man it was my fifth time playing that game. It's easy at the start but as the levels get higher the questions get harder. I reached Level 11 as you can see. I personally think I could've gotten to a higher level but I just wasn’t concentrating. Next I want to learn more faster strategies to solve division problems.
