Metaphors

Walt: Match metaphors with their meaning in sport and non-sport activities

Firstly we had to get into groups of 3 or 4. I worked with Havea, Huntah and Zain. The students that were in the target writing group weren’t allowed to help because they had done this activity before so they just had to watch the rest match it together. I think when we were doing this activity it was interesting because it was my first time doing it. I think after doing this activity I would like to add some of these metaphors into my writing.

Measuring angles

MEASUREMENT.PNG

Today we had played this online game called measuring angles. It was a bit hard to understand how to play it but when I started to carry on I slowly started to figure out how to play the game. To find the answer you have to find out what is the numbers between the two red rays. I think that this game would be suitable for year 7 and 8 students. Next I want to learn more about angles.

Designing a pattern on cup cakes

IMG_3616.JPG

Yesterday we had to create our own patterns on our muffins. We had to use 2 fruits and 1 of anything else. It was easy to come up with the pattern but I struggled when I had to try and place our designs on. We had done all this because this week at school we have just been learning about patterns. My favorite part about doing this was eating it.

Netball

JPEG Image
Today it was our last netball session with our coach Anne. I thought at first it was going to be boring because it was a girls game, but when I actually started playing I found Netball fun to play. I wish that today wasn’t going to be the last day of netball because it was a very fun day today and everyone had a great time playing netball.

The visit

Last month a group of adults had done a 80 kilometer walk to raise money for the schools around the Glen Innes area. My school which is Glen Innes got an spectacular amount of money from the people that done the 80 kilometer walk. The money that we had gotten given was $4,600 everyone inside the school was so shocked that we were given that much money.

A few weeks after that two of the people came back to our school to visit the two senior classes room 7 and 8. Their names were Dreydon and Kate they came into each class on Tuesday to show a presentation about the 80 kilometer walk that they had done to raise money. They had a time limit which was to finish the 80 kilometer walk under 24 hours. The Hillary trail is what they had walked through day and night but it wasn’t so easy because they had to walk through Thunder, lightning and even hail. As if the 80 kilometer walk was hard enough for them imagine the Horrible weather they had to walk through.

They had also came into each class not to only show their presentation but help each student set a goal for themselves. Their motivation was S.M.A.R.T and they told us what each letter had stood for. I then had help making up my goal which was to answer question faster in my next maths test.

I was so amazed how organised they were when they went to go out on their 80 kilometer walk and how well they all communicated to each other while walking through that horrible weather. I think out of all the things that Dreydon and Kate taught us I think I would be able to learn how to communicate better while I work in a team. Overall this Dreydon and Kate had sent us a delightful package which had a card and some very yum pineapple lumps a few days after their appearance.
